EVALUATION COPY, NOT FOR SALE…

I was installing a new Dell Vostro 420 desktop at the office this morning.
One of the first things I do in the BIOS is to enable POST messages, so I can see when there’s something wrong. That resulted in the following boot screen:

Hmm, what is wrong with this picture…? Perhaps that the BIOS has a notification telling me: EVALUATION COPY, NOT FOR SALE…? And the fact that Dell IS selling machines with this BIOS? 😉

(Actually, it turns out my case is not unique. Google found me similar cases here and here.)

And Dell being Dell, the only way to get this ‘problem’ fixed is a swap of the motherboard…

    1. oye listen to me…..

  1. They changed the motherboard, which fixed the problem.
(I first tried upgrading the BIOS but since the installed version and the latest available version are the same, the upgrader refused)

OK, I have a similar problem. One year ago, I bought a new motherboard: 122-CK-NF66, nForce 650i Ultra( by EVGA). After one year of total abnormal and weird work of my PC which is build around this motherboard( freezing during POST, problems with hard drives and USB ports and so on), I discovered by Everest program that:

    “BIOS type Award
BIOS version (73N2P01) EVALUATION ROM-NOT FOR SALE”

Now, it seems that: this is it, because my vendor told that I must upgrade my BIOS( flash my EPROM); in their opinion the mobo which they sold me is OK and they have no duty.
Also the producer( EVGA) told me the same.

I’m quite lost. Can you tell me if they changed your mobo?

    Thanks
