The time has finally come. My old and trusty Shuttle SB62G2 will go into retirement. It has serviced me very well as home server, running Gentoo Linux, but lately it’s been having a bit too many intermittent problems…
It will be replaced by the following:
- Aopen XC Cube EU965 (95.EU969.2Z20)
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (BX80562Q6600)
- Kingston ValueR. DDR2 PC5300 4096MB CL5, Kit w/two matched ValueRAM 2048MB DDR2 (KVR667D2N5K2/4G)
- Samsung SpinPoint T166 500GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM (x2) (HD501LJ)
As soon as the good people at PCutstyr have mailed me the components and I’ll try to assemble the beast. Hopefully it will give me a fast & versatile server that will serve my needs for the years to come! 😉
Well, the unit has been installed and is functioning perfectly. It’s quiet and fast.
The cooling is pretty good: starting something like the BOINC client, or the distributed.net client does not have any influence on the temperature of the hard drives in the (relatively small) case. 🙂
