Belgian Coffee?

Earlier this evening we enjoyed yet another great dinner at Big Horn in Sarpsborg, this time with Marianne’s parents. As usual it was hard to decide which of the nice dishes to take, but I played it safe and took the 300 grams (10.5 oz.) Mexican Pepper Steak, which I’ve had there twice before now.

After that delicious piece of cow I decided to have a coffee for dessert. On the drinks menu we had seen something called Belgisk Kaffe (Belgian Coffee). Neither Leif nor me could decide what constitutes a Belgian coffee, so we had already asked the waitress before we order the main dishes. She told us she didn’t know…
So when we ordered dessert we asked the waiter who took the orders. He told us that it was listed on the menu, but that they were never told what was in it, or how to prepare it!!
Well, that was a first for me… I ordered an Irish Coffee instead, and decided there I would try to find out what this mystery drink contains. ;-)

When I got home I used my usual tools (Google & the Wikipedia), but were unable to find a clear answer. (I did come across a liqueur called Elixir d’Anvers, but I doubt they sell much of that here in Norway…)
This left me only 1 choice…
So now I have emailed the Big Horn franchise, and I hope that they can shed a light on this mystery. ;-)

Big Horn Sarpsborg - visit #2

Yup, we enjoyed the food and ambiance so good during our visit last week that we decided to visit the local Big Horn restaurant again.
This time I wanted to try the Western Beef Steak, to find out whether it’s as good as the Mexican Pepper Steak I had the week before. I needn’t have worried there. Even though slightly different parts of the cow were used for this dish, it tasted just as delicious! :)
For desert I stuck to the same as last week… my favorite coffee: Irish Coffee! ;)

(No, these postings are not in any way sponsored by Big Horn… B-) )

The best restaurant in town

It had been a while, but tonight we decided to check out a ‘new’ restaurant in town. The Big Horn franchise opened a restaurant in Sarpsborg last December, and we went there to check it out.

To keep a short story even shorter: Great service, even better food! Not cheap of course (even by Norwegian standards), but worth the price, in my opinion. I enjoyed a No. 28, a Mexican Pepper Steak, ca. 10,5 oz. Beef tenderloin with 3 kinds of pepper. Served with pepper sauce, sour cream, fried tomato and warm sweet corn.
Marianne had a No. 13, Entrecôte, ca. 5 oz. (she wasn’t that hungry, even though she’s supposed to eat for 2) ;)

Big Horn Sarpsborg is definitely a place I can recommend! As long as your wallet can handle it… Our dinner-for-two cost NOK 835 (US$ 156) for 2 people, with no alcoholic beverages. Quite steep…
